Light Writing

After completing yesterday’s Daily Shoot assignment, I decided to try a little light writing photography. I’ve been a fan of light writing photography for some time, but never experimented with it.

I used a laser light (cat toy) to outline the image and a long shutter speed to take the photographs. The process was more difficult than I initially expected.  I plan to continue working through this fascinating process. Anyway, some of the results are amusing:

ds106

The best of the bunch.

ds106

The first attempt= UGLY

ds106

The text is better, but I forgot to outline the teeth.

ds106

The best text rendering, but this skull has a side part.

ds106- Assignment 1

Jim Groom has created an open course in Digital Storytelling,#ds106. The course objective is to critically engage with the activities and networks that are available.

The first assignment was to set up a webhost and domain. I’ve had this space for some time now. However, I haven’t used the space as I initially intended. As a result, items get posted when I have time. I do have good intentions. That counts for something, right? Needless to say, by participating in ds106 I hope to change the way I’ve used this site. (so far, merely as a placeholder)

The second part of the assignment was to tell a story in 30 seconds. A 30 second story! I thought about creating an interactive timeline from my browser cache. But then I realized I cleared my cache, so the breadcrumbs wouldn’t tell a story. I thought about creating a montage of recently viewed Youtube videos. Then, I thought about making a shadow puppet play. I’ve sat on this assignment for days. I did a great deal of thinking, but I wasn’t producing anything. I talked myself in and out of participating, reasoning that I didn’t have the time to create something clever so I shouldn’t attempt it at all. I suffered through this back and forth internal dialogue, until I decided what the hell, why not give ds106 a try. I’m an adjunct. I can take a little public shame and humiliation. As such, here is my 30 second story.
